TGCA

TGCA TOYS In Hand and Ridden Classes Affiliation Number 22/3007/2/ULT

TGCA Breed classes are qualifiers for the Best of Breed Finals at the Traditional Gypsy Cob Association's (TGCA) National Breed Championship Show “TOYS”.

Traditional Classes are open to all traditional gypsy cobs and are qualifiers for the Traditional Finals at ‘TOYS’.

Part Bred classes, are open to all part bred traditional gypsy cobs and are qualifiers for the part bred finals at “TOYS”. The exhibit must have one parent that is a traditional gypsy cob.

Stallions – All stallions (four years and over) in order to enter any TGCA affiliated class MUST be TGCA registered, have passed TGCA stallion evaluations and their TGCA stallion disc displayed on their bridle. Stallions and colts over the age of two, MUST be shown in a stallion bridle with a metal bit and chain lead as per the current TGCA rulebook.

Current TGCA members must present their Membership card and Qualification card to the judge in the ring for signature.

Non-members MUST receive a qualification card from the judge and have 21 days to join the TGCA and register their horse to validate the qualification. Championships

Quest for a Star Championship Inc Youngstock Quest for a Star- Traditional Gypsy Cobs 1st, 2nd and 3rd from the TGCA classes above may go forward to the Quest for a Star Championship as per below rule. ONLY current TGCA members and horse/pony that is already TGCA registered can exhibit in this championship, if exhibit already has their Quest for a Star Qualification in particular section, they should be ask stand aside to allow members that have not yet qualified. Membership card and Member’s qualification card (specific to that exhibit) must be presented upon entry into the ring. The Champion and Reserve qualify for the Ultimate Star Championships at TOYS. The Greatest Gelding Award - Traditional Gypsy Cobs The award is aimed to encourage the showing of geldings, therefore creating a market for often unwanted colt foals and enabling the creation of a network of potential performance prospects to represent the best Traditional Gypsy Cob breed in the World at the highest level. This Award should be given to the highest placed registered Traditional Gelding.

VHS

Veteran Horse Society – AREA QUALIFIER TBA.

First round qualifier for the Veteran Horse Society Supreme Final:

VETERAN HORSE OF THE YEAR

Open to members and non-members. All competitors and grooms must adhere to VHS Rules in all circumstances. Failure to do so may result in immediate disqualification.

Equifest

This Show is affiliated to Equifest, taking place at Arena UK, Grantham, Lincolnshire on the 5th – 8th August 2026. The two highest exhibits not already qualified in each affiliated class will qualify.

TSR

This Show is Affiliated to The Showing Register Amateur of the Year Final, taking place at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire dates tbc. The two highest exhibits not already qualified in each affiliated class will qualify. You do not need to be a member to enter or compete but you do need to become a member to enter the final.  Please refer to for further details

 
Sunshine Tour Qualifiers for Showing Dressage and Show jumping in all shows TBA. This show is a qualifier for The Sunshine Tour Championships - TBA. The Championships are for unaffiliated and amateur competitors in Dressage from Intro to Elementary, Show Jumping from Lead Rein to 1.05m; Showing for lead rein, in-hand, ridden, working hunter, veterans, plus many more, Eventer’s Challenge from 50cm through to 90cm.

Qualification: Dressage & Show Jumping 1st – 3rd place; Showing & Eventers Challenge 1st – 4th place. Qualification does not pass down the line.

POINTS SYSTEM

Points are awarded to members as follows:

1st  = 7 points

2nd = 6 points

3rd  = 5 points

4th  = 4 points

5th  = 3 points

6th  = 2 points

SHOW PROTOCOL

1. All competitors and their supporters, helpers etc. whilst on the showground must abide by the rules of the Club.
2. The judges decisions are final. Any objections must be made to the Club Secretary in writing within 1 hour of the alleged incident, together with a deposit of £20 which will be forfeited if the objection is not upheld or is frivolous.
3. Judges are not to be harassed by a competitor or any other person
4. The club and its officials cannot be held responsible for loss, damage or injury whether to persons, property or animals.
5. Hors Concurs entries should compete in that category at the end of the particular class. No awards will be presented or points earned in that class.
6. Ponies must jump in the appropriate height class and riders must compete in the appropriate age group. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

Show Safety

7. All persons on the showground must comply with the safety advice and directions given by Club officials and displayed on safety notices
8. Safety Headgear must be worn by all persons when mounted on ponies or horses. Chinstraps must be securely fastened at all times. Riding hats must comply with the current British or European Safety Standards – see here.
9. Appropriate protective clothing, including footwear must be worn by all persons on the showground when mounted.
10. Only riders entered to compete in the show may use the practice ring and must jump the practice fence in the direction indicated with the red flag on the right-hand wing. Grooms and owners not eligible use his facility.
11. A fall of the rider will result in elimination from the competition. Such dismounted riders should not remount whilst in the show ring.
12. Competitors should be mounted on suitably sized ponies or horses. Should a judge or show official be concerned that a rider is under or over-horsed they will be requested to withdraw in the interests of safety or animal cruelty

Show Administration

13. Competitors’ season membership paid before March 1st will attract a discount. Memberships will be valid up until the end of the calendar year.
14. Club trophies must be returned to the Club Secretary, in clean condition in time for the presentation evening by the date of the last show of the year. Trophies remain the property of the Club . Failure to return trophies on time will result in competitors’ points being deducted.
15. All entries must be paid for at the time of entry or a signed cheque deposited with the entry’s secretary at the show. Refunds will only be made if the class is cancelled.
16. To be eligible for trophies at the annual presentation evening members must have competed in at least three club shows in the relevant classes, this will be back dated if required

Lead Rein competition

17. Lead rein riders electing to ride as juniors cannot revert to lead rein after competing in the junior category
18. Leaders in Lead Rein competitions must follow the line taken by the pony and must be behind the animal’s head at all times. The lead rein must be connected to the noseband and not to the bit. Snaffle bridles only must be used. Competitors in these classes must be on the lead rein at all times including for prize-giving.

Tiny Tots

19. Tiny Tots competition will be two clear rounds, not against the clock.

Showing Classes

20. Riding Club Pony to be ridden in the correct tack as noted in the schedule
21. Best Kept Pony Tack classes: a pony may go in these classes only once. It may not be used again with another rider.

Ring Etiquette

23. Draw reins, side reins, schooling aids or such gadgets are not allowed in any show rings.
24. Competitors must not enter the show ring until it is appropriately safe to do so as instructed by stewards, judge or announcer.
25. Unofficial practice or warming up must not be undertaken in any show ring.
