For over 30 years Tim been a popular and respected face at the Gate Riding Club.

Having owned and run Crowberry Stud with his wife Barbara, Tim has supported the Gate Riding Club in many different areas. As a judge he enjoys sharing his extensive knowledge with the next generation of riders, having most possibly judged their parents at club shows in the past.

Tim is also a great Master of Ceremonies at the annual dinner and dance with his ironic and witty sense of humour when awarding the trophies and ensuring the smooth running of the evening.

Andrew currently manages the show jumping and showing classes at The Gate and on show days ensures everything is running smoothly.

Andrew has been riding from an early age and after qualifying at Ingestre Hall went to work at Crowberry Stud in Middleton. Supporting Tim & Barbara Marsland’s business breaking and training horses. Andrew also focuses a lot of his time training riders, helping them grow in confidence and develop partnerships with their horses.

Andrew has competed throughout the country riding different horses for owners in various disciplines including showing, dressage and showjumping. Andrew believes The Gate is a great venue to start horses and riders with plenty of help and support to build confidence and experience.

In his spare time, Andrew breeds Dobermans and miniature Dachshunds at home with the rest of his equine and canine family.

Julie is the secretary of The Gate Riding Club and is now looking after the Dressage shows.

Julie has been riding for as long as she can remember and has competed at The Gate over the years on many different horses.

Julie has competed at The Gate with success in both ridden classes and dressage. Julie’s daughter also competed at the Gate in the Working Hunter classes and when she stopped competing Julie continued riding their 15hh WHP Harvey achieving 3rd in the National TREC Championships.

Julie is keen to build on the great reputation The Gate already has for their popular club shows and wants to develop a Gate Team that can compete nationally in British Riding Club competitions.

Julie is now the proud owner of Portia, an Irish draught mare, and Login Bonnie a Miniature Shetand who with Andrew’s help will be competing (dragged round) at The Gate.

Vicky is responsible for arranging the show dates and that everything is done to ensure a safe and enjoyable day is had by all. Vicky’s equestrian qualifications make her the ideal lady for the job with BHS stages 1-4, BHS Horse Knowledge & Care 1-4, UKCC Level 2and Preliminary Teaching Certificate. Vicky also has her Equestrian Specific First Aid qualifications and Child Protection certificate.

Vicky grew up locally and from an early age competed at The Gate RC. Having owned horses all her life Vicky has competed to a high standard in team chasing, showing, dressage including TeamQuest and show jumping.

Ann is the Treasurer for The Gate Riding Club and offers support with other admin requirements including on busy show days helping with the entries.

Ann learnt to ride in her teens and loved it so much she bought a retired racehorse. Ann now has a private yard which she runs with her daughter.

Annie supports the dressage competitions, calculating the dressage scores and helping competitors on the day.

Judith is a steward for the showing rings and enjoys competing at the dressage shows

Rachel is the voice behind the microphone, announcing classes and promoting sponsors over the PA system and is normally accompanied by her two rescue dogs, Snoop and Teddy.

Rachel has a passion for heavy horses and currently owns a Suffolk Punch, CC. Rachel has kindly donated a trophy to the club in memory of her first Suffolk Punch, Custard Tart.

Joining in 2020, Linda wanted to continue to support the riding club now her son, Liam, is at University and training with Matt Frost. Linda will support Ann with the entries and is always on hand for advice and support.

Kay is one of our helpers who will try and assist at any shows she can. She will turn her hand to most things!  Dressage scoring, stewarding, entries, even the odd bit of judging!  She began competing at the Gate back in the seventies and her daughter Sian followed suit in the noughties. Sian went on to showjump all over the country but honed her skills here. Kay has always wanted to put something back and now has the time to do so.  She loves the personalities that are involved. On show days Michelle takes entries and ensures all the odd jobs around the show ground are done.

Having taken a ‘back seat’ in 2020 for a new baby, Michelle is now back supporting us .
